Keeping an eye on content trends is essential if you’re looking to compete or get ahead of your competition. Every year there is a brand new onslaught of marketing and content trends that become viral and cause brands everywhere to copy and mimic them in order to generate buzz for their own brands.

While the initial “chaos” of COVID had subsided, it brought forth several marketing trends that are here to stay (virtual events, AI-powered content, and digital transformation to name a few). As you plan for the future, keep looking ahead so that you can be prepared to plan and create content in line with the upcoming trends.

Here are some content and marketing trends to watch in 2021.

Meaningful Content

As you’re reading this, never before has there been more content on the Internet. Each day, there is an insane amount of content uploaded, downloaded, and consumed. So how do you stay above the fray?

One of the best ways to do this is to create meaningful content — meaning that it serves a useful and valuable purpose. No matter your brand or product, think about how you can produce content that tells a story and strikes a cord with your consumer.

While many of us are eager to get back to all of the in-person activities we’ve missed out on, digital content and events have proven staying power. One of the greatest outcomes of our forced virtual reality was connecting people from all around the globe that otherwise wouldn’t have been able to congregate. Connecting with influencers in your industry around the world has been made possible, which is why digital is here to stay.

Navigating Tricky Social Climates

With all of the important social and political movements as of late, there is an increased spotlight on brands to successfully navigate them. More customers than ever before are looking to you to figure out whether their beliefs are aligned with yours. 

Your marketing decisions, whether silent or vocal, make a statement about where your brand stands, and will thus have an impact on the audience you attract.

Influencer Marketing

No surprise here, but once again influencer marketing is here to stay. Platforms like YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook have all paved the way for accounts with millions of followers to strongly influence the masses.

If you can collaborate with the right influencer, you can secure yourself some major credibility with your demographic.

Video Coming in Hot

While video can be much more time consuming to create than photo content, it is truly the leading medium for content consumption. This is true in the case with Instagram, as its Reels feature is leading the way thanks to the powerful algorithms. If you want your content to get in front of more eyeballs, make sure you focus on short yet impactful videos.

One of the greatest things about video is how it can tell a story that much more powerfully, so learning how to leverage reels and videos as much as possible can be your key to staying on top of your content game.

Voice Search

Each day, more and more people are speaking into their phone to answer their common questions. Want to know how to maximize on this? Start creating content that asks a question the way you would if you were talking to Siri or Alexa.

Write content in a straightforward manner that isn’t too serious so that it reflects a tone similar to that of someone’s natural spoken language.
